ASHRAE has taken a position, on the inclusion of Germicidal Lamps using UVGI technology to control the spread of airborne infectious diseases through HVAC systems. The complete document can be found here. ASHRAE called out the use of UVGI (Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation) as being an effective technology. If we follow the recommendation of UVGI that is inclusive of products in the UVC lamp category. PCO is also an effective technology that is used in the reduction/control of viruses and other pollutants in an HVAC system, but this specific technology was not included as part of the ASHRAE recommendations.
In the best scenario filtration with MERV11 filters or better used in conjunction with (UVGI) on the coil and/or air stream and additionally PCO technology servicing supply side will create the most effective system for controlling viruses and pollutants in an HVAC system.
