Importance of Measuring Coil Face To Plenum Wall Distances

Why Measure Coil Face to the Plenum?

Check our video below for a detailed explanation of this post. Supporting images are also shown below.

We need to pay particular attention to coil face to first obstruction measurements as well as coil face to plenum wall measurement.

Both of these measurements are important. In the image you can see the two measurements we are looking for. We need a minimum of 12″ to accommodate the racks, so making sure there is not a blower wheel or some other object blocking the rack from being mounted is very important. In addition we need appropriate air contact time which has been determined to be a minimum of 36″. If your application does not allow for the 12″ for the SI rack to be installed or the 36″ minimum for contact time for proper air treatment then another solution may be offered.

Specifically in smaller equipment applications where an A coil or similar style coil normally identified with more of a residential size equipment is installed the option would be to put a residentially sized product on the coil to do our best job there but if more than standard disinfection is desired, for example solving for Influenza or Covid then we would only be able to provide disinfection calculations using air stream disinfection and for that we will need the w x h x L of the duct run available for us to install UV lamps to do air stream in addition to coil treatment.
