SOLARIS® Meets ASHRAE Requirements

SOLARIS® VOTED TOP RESIDENTIAL PRODUCT TO MEET ASHRAE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR INFECTIOUS DISEASE CONTROL

Yes, our team of HVAC Sales Professionals voted and the verdict is in!  The SOLARIS® is our top pick for residential applications.

Infectious disease, airborne virus, quarantine, this is 2020 and let’s face it, I’m thankful for the health of those around me but I would have preferred to continue on with business and life as usual.  Yes, there was a lot of negative, we got some positives too; things are cleaner and people learned how to wash their hands, YAY!   In addition, a mass majority of our population became more concerned with Indoor Air Quality.

As an HVAC sales professional that has been preaching IAQ solutions and the need for them in residential and commercial applications this was thrilling.  I know where my family and friends are heading for information and according to the CDC COVID-19 can be spread a few ways one of which includes respiratory droplets.   I was really surprised that I did not find information on the “Protect Your Home from COVID-19” page of the CDC website, concerning UVGI IAQ technologies.  I know people are looking for answers on what to do and while the CDC is geared toward public safety they missed the mark on some of the best ways to protect your home.  HVAC systems may contribute far more both to transmission of disease and, potentially to reduction of transmission risk.   We wanted to highlight ASHRAE; a highly regarded agency in our industry, their mission, and a few recommendations and resources.

“To serve humanity by advancing the arts and sciences of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration and their allied fields.”[1]

We took a look at ASHRAE’s Position Document on Airborne Infectious Diseases and other technical papers to help hone in our recommendations.  ASHRAE has shared some specific recommendations concerning filtration and other technologies efficient in viral control.  Infectious disease transmission, mathematical model of airborne infection, and other pertinent information are also discussed in their documents.  The ASHRAE recommendations state, “high priority to enhancing well-designed, installed, commissioned, and maintained HVAC systems with supplemental filtration, uvgi, and, in some cases, to additional or more effective ventilation to the breathing zone. Filtration and uvgi can be applied in new buildings at moderate additional cost and can be applied quickly in existing building systems to decrease the severity of acute disease outbreaks.”[i] UVGI is one of the oldest UV technologies for viral control and we know from research studies that it is certainly effective in killing Corona Viruses.  There are many IAQ technologies but only a few have been addressed by ASHRAE.  Our pick for the SOLARIS® stems from the technologies it features which include; uvgi technology in the HVAC Supply and an optional add on UVC coil lamp to do uvgi at the coil.  This product also features PCO technology and ionization making it a triple threat.  Coming in at a list price of $1,198 you can have an IAQ solution for your residential applications that meets ASHRAE criteria for viral control in addition to using other emerging technologies.
